Abstract

This study investigates the effects of inflation and currency devaluation on business operations in Nigeria, using Tobez Limited as a case study. Nigeria’s macroeconomic instability, characterized by persistent inflation and periodic currency devaluations, presents serious challenges to local businesses, particularly in terms of input costs, pricing, operational planning, and profitability. The research adopts a mixed-method approach involving both quantitative data analysis and qualitative interviews with key personnel in Tobez Limited. Findings indicate that inflation significantly erodes purchasing power, increases operational costs, and reduces consumer demand, while currency devaluation adversely affects import-dependent businesses through increased cost of raw materials and equipment. Moreover, it was revealed that Tobez Limited adopts coping strategies such as price adjustments, cost-cutting, and sourcing local alternatives to mitigate these effects. The study concludes that macroeconomic volatility poses substantial risks to sustainable business growth in Nigeria and recommends strategic policy reforms aimed at stabilizing inflation and exchange rates to support local enterprises.
