REMOTE SENSING TECHNIQUES FOR FOREST RESOURCE MONITORING AND MANAGEMENT
Abstract
Forest resources play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance, supporting biodiversity, and sustaining livelihoods. However, increasing deforestation, land degradation, and unsustainable exploitation necessitate effective monitoring and management strategies. This study examines the application of remote sensing techniques for forest resource monitoring and management. It highlights how satellite imagery, LiDAR, drones, and GIS tools are used to assess forest cover changes, estimate biomass, detect illegal logging, and monitor forest health. The research employs a combination of temporal satellite data analysis and geospatial modeling to evaluate forest dynamics across selected regions. Findings reveal that remote sensing provides timely, accurate, and cost-effective data essential for informed decision-making in forest conservation and management. Furthermore, the integration of remote sensing with ground-truthing enhances precision in mapping and resource assessment. The study concludes that adopting advanced remote sensing technologies is crucial for sustainable forest governance, climate change mitigation, and biodiversity conservation.
