THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION ON STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT AND INTEREST IN MATHEMATICS IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN NNEWI NORTH LGA OF ANAMBRA STATE
Abstract
Recent rapid advancement of digital tools in education has necessitated a shift from traditional instructional methods to technology-driven approaches that enhance teaching and learning experiences. The study adopted a quasi-experimental research design, involving selected senior secondary school students who were divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was taught Mathematics using technology-integrated instructional methods such as interactive software, simulations, and digital learning platforms, while the control group received instruction through conventional teaching methods. Data were collected using a Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT) and a Mathematics Interest Inventory (MII), both validated and tested for reliability. Descriptive and inferential statistical tools such as mean, standard deviation, and t-test were employed for data analysis.
Findings revealed that students exposed to technology-integrated instruction significantly outperformed those taught using traditional methods, both in achievement and interest levels. The use of technology made mathematical concepts more concrete, interactive, and relatable, thereby improving understanding and motivation. The study concludes that integrating technology into Mathematics instruction enhances students’ cognitive performance and fosters a positive attitude toward the subject. It recommends that teachers in Nnewi North and beyond should be trained and encouraged to effectively incorporate digital tools in their classroom practices, while educational policymakers should provide adequate infrastructure and support for sustained technological integration in secondary schools.
