PROSPECTS AND CHALLENGES OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN NIGERIA
Abstract
Skills shortages in key areas of the digital economy mean there are many different Information Technology (IT) careers available for graduates with relevant qualifications and experience. IT products and the end means of IT can be integrated for advances in the IT world. The end means of IT include operating systems on the computer networks that automate a company’s tasks and processes, mobile phones, or the vast amount of information sought and found on the internet. This implies that careers in the information technology sector are expected to grow significantly in the upcoming years. In addition, as more complex technologies continue to develop, companies seek employees who stay up to date with new technologies. This includes careers in Big data and cloud computing. This paper seeks to carry out a study on the prospects, skills that can be acquired, career development and progression in the IT industry in Nigeria that can lead to improved quality of life.
