Abstract:

This study examines the implications of the boarding and day school system on the quality of education in Nigeria. Using a mixed-methods research approach that incorporates a comprehensive literature review and qualitative interviews, the research aims to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of both educational systems, considering factors such as academic performance, socio-emotional development, and overall student well-being.

The findings reveal diverse perspectives on the advantages and challenges associated with the boarding and day school systems. Boarding schools are noted for fostering a structured learning environment, enhanced extracurricular opportunities, and the development of life skills. Conversely, concerns include issues of isolation, mental health, and limited family involvement. Day schools, on the other hand, offer increased family engagement, reduced stress associated with separation, and a connection to local communities, but may face challenges related to resource constraints.

The study explores the implications of these systems on the overall quality of education, considering academic outcomes, student satisfaction, and the holistic development of learners. Recommendations are made for policymakers, educators, and parents to collaboratively address the identified challenges and leverage the strengths of both systems to enhance the quality of education in Nigeria.
