THE INFLUENCE OF JOB INCENTIVES IN ORGANIZATIONS OPERATION (A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIA BOTTLING COMPANY PLC NINTH MILE, ENUGU STATE

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

There has been an eminent question on the part of most writer of industrial organization to study and find solution to some problem on the productivity of workers, how it can be measured and what factors influence the workers performance in the organization operation.

However in this study it is a discussion on how incentives influence an organization operation. This leading to greater productivity as a result of workers performance labour, is  know  to be one of the major factors of production and dry production process will be incomplete without labour as a major determinant  and  this are human beings whose services are purpose which include production of good and services.

A good organization operation will be determined by its productivity level which is the amount of good and services produced by certain number of labour forces and the resource available at the organization disposal; this is generally accepted fact that without compensation in return (incentive) labour will be unfunction incentive is the payment or benefit made  to or received by a worker either week monthly periodically or quterly as suitable to  organization in exchange for work and services reddened in the process of production.

Incentive comprises of salaries overtime payment job security provision of amenities etc  which shall all be discuss later in other chapter. The has been persistent controversy over the importance of these incentives to works.

Economic and many industrial executive are prone to stress the importance of incentives  in determining the worker job satisfaction and preference level which leads to high productivity and good organization operation.

During  the part two decades, the question for better ways of motivating people at work has caused some researchers to concentrate on the physiological factors that stimulate workers rather than developing the incentives of financial rewards. The choice between financial reward s. the choice between financial incentives and physiological incentives has been the subject of contrivers . Both sides of those arguments are discussed in later chapter of the work.

However, there has not been any comprehensive sheme to satisfy al situations and motivations of works varies with the type of work and even with the particular Job but any form of motivation will  not have the same appeal for individual workers to mere employment of working Job incentives can now be seen a very important factor in encouraging and enhancing workers performance and efficient organizations operation through not without putting the following  into consideration.

A)      Satisfaction of workers which is suitable ways and salaries for children, better medical facilities transportation facilities,  moderate working hours and a peaceful and cornfortable reticent, just to mention all but a few- To increase their commitment to work and enhance their performance  work.

B)      Provision of adequate quantity of goods and service on which people can spend their money, whatever the level of ways paid to workers, Unless there is a steady and abundant supply of essential commodities there can be no end to demand for ways increase.

C)      The existence of labour relation of workers union whose prime responsibility is to maximize both economic and social well being of its members will go a long way in increasing workers productivity through provision of some incentives.

1.1    BACKGROUND OF STUDY

The history of ways and salaries in Nigeria is traceable to the colonial period when effort were made to review workers salaries, but emphasis will be laid on the past colonial and independence era in this study.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

In this day of trade and commerce, many enterprises are springing up. For instance.

vSale proprietorship

vPartnership

vCorporative, limited liability company

Being established for the purpose of achieving objective as it related to their businesses.

These businesses have one thing in common and that is they all employ the factors of production land, capital, labour and entrepreneurship for the achievement of their various objectives. These objectives could be effectively and efficiently achieved if these very important tools are properly managed. A good and efficient business done not end with the profit made but ought to be sustained to ensure a more regular flow of income and subsequent profit

The sustainability of a good business depends on a number of factors the location of the business (which includes the land) environment, proximity to the required raw material and the targeted end users, and more importantly, funds. A good business can only thrive if the effective human resources are employed. Therefore it is necessary to ensure that a proper qualified workforce is employed to enhance productivity.

Another factor that will enhance the productivity and profitability of a good business out fit is proper accounting. If proper accounting procedures is employed in a business, waste of funds. Time and materials will be minimized. Although it is the duty of every employee in a business outfit to imbibe the culture of maintenance and accountability, the accountant has a greater put to play in this aspect of the business.

Proper accounting is the hallmark of any business and it cuts across every segment of the business from the security gate to the office of the Chief executive. In modern day business proper accounting is very beneficial and rewarding. It appraises, revaluates and checks the amount of capital invested, as well as revenue and expenditure that occur during the business financial year. With this profit and loss account is brought also into consideration, where proper accounting has not been introduced in a business, there is bound to be some irregularities. The income and expenditures would not be accurately recorded thereby making it difficult for the actual profit to be ascertained.

The importance of proper accounting in modern day business cannot be overemphasized because it definitely has a positive effect of the workforce. The work force will be more careful, cost conscious and committed to the business, profit will increase and waste minimized.

An individual engages in business because he or she believes that the rewards or possible benefit of business are greater than the risks or possible future sacrifices of business.

Accounting is often said to be the language of business it is used in the business world to described the transaction entered into by all kind of organization. The actual record making phase of accounting is usually called bookkeeping and he use to which these record are pt, their analysis and interpretation. An accountant should be interested in relationship between the financial results and the events which have created them.

The owners of a business would want to know

vWhether or not the firm operating at a profit

vWhere or not the business will be able to meet its commitment as they fall due, or have to close down owing to lack of funds

vWhether documentary evidence of the company business activities can be maintained

CHAPTER ONE

1.0     INTRODUCTION

Banks generally provide avenue for saving to those who have surplus funds. The surplus deposits are then lent out to the needy personal, cooperate bodies and business customers in form of loans, advances and overdrafts. This proves the statement that “Banks serves as major intermediaries between the demand sector (which need credit to finance projects) and the supply sector (which provide such loan-able funds for such investments)”.

Credits facilities are usually in form of loans, advances, bills discounted bonds and over drafts. Lending is one of the most intricate services rendered by banks and credit facilities are integral part of bank lending. Therefore, this project will in detail analyze the basic principles of bank lending and the mechanics of safe lending permeating the financial statement and interpretation.

It is an indisputable fact that most important asset items in the balance sheet of commercial banks are loans and advances; these items are reported for some good reason. From the bank perspectives they are the largest sources of income.

Insurance industry is a very vital aspect of Nigeria economy,

1.1            BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The development of insurance industry, in Nigeria has passed

through three distinguishable phases: the initial open door phase, roughly between 1990 and 1960, the transitional phase which concludes with the first national development plan period, 1962 – 1969 and the take  off phase (1990 to the present times), withness the toughening of the framework of government regulation and represents a radical change in government’s attitude toward the control the industry.

After the war, Nigeria experienced a lot of improvement, and after that was the introduction of the worker’s compensation act of 1940 and the road traffic act of 1945 which came into force on 1stApril 1950.  Due to the increase in insurance industry in Nigeria.

TRANSITIONAL PHASE:

This was after Nigeria had their, independent, there was a rapid increase in the number of company establishment, and an increase in insurance industries and some of the foreign companies were turned to indigenous companies.  The first step was to regulate the operations of the insurance companies to ensure a sound and efficiency insurance market, which would not only discharge its duties to members of the insuring public but would constitute the solid foundation for future growth and development.  It was also discovered that some of the insurance companies are not investing in Nigeria, because
