DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ON LINE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION ADMINISTRATION SYSTEM.

ABSTRACT

Computers are known for their wide range of uses especially in scientific and mathematical fields.  However little or no thought has been given to designing a complete and through intelligence test on a computer system in out immediate environment.  Although in advanced countries, where computerized games have been developed, computers have proved that they constitute of ways of indirectly testing intelligence.

This system is designed in order to implement intelligence test on a computer system.  It tries as much as possible to incorporate the important aspect of intelligence on a wide scale.  It is designed to test intelligence of secondary school leavers using the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the University Matriculation Examination (UME) as a standardized sample, and as such the Psychological implication of such a design is very important.

The design of the system is quite simple and easily understood.  Its flexibility makes it amenable for future changes and amendment to either incorporate other aspects of intelligence or to be designed for any other school age or class.

The question of the intelligence test are programmed and visually displayed on the system’s screen in an interactive form. The student answers the question on the computer system.

The results obtained from the test give an estimate on user’s (student) intelligence quotient (IQ).  This is equally displayed and tells the student in what category he/she falls within.  The result of the test is also displayed of the end of the test which goes a long way to lesson the fears of students that they were marked down in the examination.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1            BACKGROUND OF STUDY:

In the past, ability tests were used in admitting students into University and professional schools, for instance the scholastic aptitude test, which measure, both aptitude and achievement, (the aptitude test measures accomplished skills & indicate what a person can do at present, while the achievements test predicts what a person can accomplished with training).

But the essential requirements for any test include reliability, validity and uniform testing procedure.  The test which measure general intelligence ability are often called “Intelligence test”.

Intelligence test are usually designed and implemented for a group of people to access the nature and course of mental development, intellectual and non-intellectual personality differences associated with age, sex & facial membership, differences that might be attributed to hereditary or to environmental factors, differences among persons at different occupational levels and among their children, intellectual and others traits of a typical group such as the mentally gifted, the mentally retorted, the neurotic and the psychotic.

The topic computer based intelligence test system (C.B.TS) is geared towards impacting Intelligence on a computer, whereby the Universities Matriculation Examination (UME) and the senior secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) will be conducted and taken on the computer system itself and the result displayed to the user (student) immediately after the examination.

One may ask this question, is the realistic on the face value it might seem impossible, but with the advent of computer games, computers have proved that they constitute of ways of indirectly testing intelligence.

1.2            STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

A critical look at the operations of the west African Examination council, the organization of (SSCE) show that a part of their examination comes as an objectives questions and the answers are expected to be shaded on a computer answer sheets and marked by the computer, where as the theory section of the examination, which of course carries the greatest mark, is to be marked by WAEC examiners, leaving much to be desired especially in the Nigerian context of it.

Move so, in admitting students into higher schools differences attributed to hereditary or to environmental factors, differences among persons at different occupation levels and among their children; and facial membership may lead to bias, instead of admitting qualified students, unqualified students may also be admitted. The delay in the release of the SSCE and UME result causes anxiety on the student that participated in the examination.

1.3            AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The prime objectives of this topic “computer based intelligence test system (C-BITS)” is to enhance the use and process of the test of intelligence and intelligence quotient (IQ)in individuals.  This test enable an establishment to access the intelligence capabilities of individuals to be admitted into higher schools and in offering of Jobs in the labor institution.

The project aims at an improved situation where the UME and SSCE examination will be conducted and taken on the computer system itself.

The use of the computer system to achieve this is our area of concentration.

1.4            DELIMITATION:

This work is designed for solely accessing the intelligence capabilities and intelligence quotient of secondary school leavers.

1.5            THE SCOPE OF THE WORK:

The scope of this work is to outline the practical uses of the computer system in the area of intelligence test (IT), mental abilities and their measurements, computer assisted learning (CAL), the nature of intelligence and scholastic aptitude test (SAT).

1.6            LIMITATION:

Due to time constraint we were unable to extend our research to cover other subject, that was why we limited it to just three subject.

1.7            DEFINITION OF FORMS:

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1     Background of the Study

When the amount of data grows in a company, there is a need for a database system to store the data regularly. The need for an art gallery database includes storing data information, sales information for monthly reports.

This project presents the development of data management systems for holding cash information like the products sold, monthly flow of cash, and balance sheet information for the month. All this will be explained in detail in the following chapters. The objective is to design a data management system that can store information like art work, and sales information.

In developing the database system, there will be a need to decide what the best tools are for this. The client selected Microsoft Access and Visual Basic, since they were familiar tools she works with. In order to achieve these goals, important questions that are asked include what is the information that will be stored in the database, how many tables will be needed and how will these tables relate to each other. These are some good points to note when designing a cash register.

The Microsoft Access is where the work begins; it includes creating the models for each table in the database, analyzing the content of the tables, designing the User Interface that the client will use to input data information into the database. The Visual Basic will be used for creating dynamic interaction in the database, like generating the receipt reference number for each customer that buys goods, and wants make the payment online.

1.2     Statement of the Problem

The problem and inadequacies inherent in the manual receipt issued by shop keepers, and sales control system in business transactions, where many items are involved, the manual cash receipt system becomes tedious and big to handle.  Error inherent in manual calculation and balancing of sales leads to excessive cost operation and hence may lead to wrong decision taken by the managers of a business firm.

1.3Purpose of the Study

This purpose of this study is to design an online cash receipt generation system for supermarkets.

1.4 Aims and Objectives of the Study

The main objective is to computerized the cash receipt generation system of a business transactions taking Roban Stores Ltd Enugu as a case study. This will help the manager know when to make purchases of items, ascertain the exact number of each items or stock available, to ascertain the stock that are either mostly or sparsely sold as well as knowing the exact number of each stock or items that are lacking thereby helping to improve workflow in the organization. Moreover to reduce time wasted in data processing and information retrieval. And finally to improve management activities, which will lead to improved productivity, accountability and business management of the organization.

1.5     Significance of the Study

In view of the rapid development of computer technology in virtually all fields of operation and its use in relation to information management, it has become important to look into the development of a computerized inventory control system to meet up with demands of the present day society. In this case, inventory system is a vital and very important function part of every business or organization since it provides services to every other function unit.

The process of making any decision is based upon a combination of factors, skill, judgment and information. The ability to refer to up to date information or data via the inventory control system will greatly improve the quality of the management information employed. Therefore, the quality of the decision made will be far greater in terms of accuracy, utility and cost. The development of a computer based Sales / inventory control system will instantly deck stock records to establish that sufficiently stocks held to cover the user requirement.

The stock processing or recording helps so that management can obtain data regarding the stocks at any time. The development of a computerized stock inventory will also provide part services to customers by reducing queuing.

On the order hand, the manner and rate at which stocks are recorded and retrieved are getting disgusted and bored, due to tremendous changes in information technology. From time to time, and information on stocks are requested by the management of the retail business for one reason or the other. The preparation and submission of these reports take longer time than necessary to prepare, and are sometimes inaccurate.

The project is aimed at designing, a new better alternative system to help the organization to: –

(a)     Produce available operational reports when needed.

(b)     Safeguard data and information in the system.

(c)      Reduced workload in the present system.

(d)     Keep accurate record on stock card

(e)      Reduce time wasted in data processing.

1.6 Scope of Study

This project work is designed to cover all aspect of sales, purchases, and stock keeping a business transaction.

The system incorporates the items stock recording, stock taking and recording. Recording system monitors current store level and determines whether new items must be ordered. This system keeps statistics of each item usage to determine the quantity to be ordered.

1.7 Constraints and Limitations

During the process of this research work some drawbacks were encountered while trying to get adequate needed data and information.

They include the reluctance of the management of the firm under study to release vital information, which they feared would jeopardize the security of the organization. And secondly, time and financial constraints which had great influence to this work.

1.8 Definition of Terms

Receipt: Receipt is the process of accepting from sources, all materials or items used in the organization.

Issue: This is the process of giving out items from store to various departments in the organization.

Bin Card: is the different coloured cards used for updating stocks.

Computer Program: This is a set of instruction that guides the computer on the action to perform.

Flowchart:  This is graphical representation of step by step by which computer can follow to execute a task.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

Loan service for small organizations individuals was initiated after a number of considerations on the banking system.  Major Banks are mainly guided by financial profit for their shareholders.  They are after minimization of financial risks.  Such strategies don’t leave much room to people on low income or even small organizations that strive for their survival.

This research studied the computer-based loan scheme management system-as was done in Harvard Trust Bank Enugu.  Loans are readily given to people who have an account (mostly current Account) in the Harvard Trust Bank.  Apart from being a customer to the necessary for giving him loan.  Such conditions may include: provision of collateral security, having at lest one guarantor and filling the bank loan management form.  The collateral security must be a landed property before the bank will accept it.  Also, the guarantor must have an account in that bank and must be a reportable person in the society.

The role of computer in loan scheme management can never be overemphasized.  The computerized bank loan management form enables bankers to work without stress.  Information can be updated as soon as a positive change occurs.

I therefore recommend this project to all who may like to have a look at what the topic is all about.  The research work will enable them know the importance of computer in loan scheme management which yield fruitful results as that of other fields of human endeavour.

1.1           STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The events of loan scheme management system have been documented. This research will evaluate the perceived motion of computer-based loan scheme management system.

In doing so, attempts will be made to answer the following questions:

  1. What steps are taken in designing a computer-base loan scheme management system?
  2. How can a computer-base loan scheme management be implemented?
  3. What are the implications of not meeting the above requirements?
  4. How far have the computer-base loan scheme management system gone in achieving the desired goals?

1.2           PURPOSE OF STUDY

The purpose of this study is to bring to check the anomaly associated with the Harvard Trust computer-based loan scheme management system.

As the loan scheme management is done by man, irregularities are bound to be associated with it.

If these loan scheme management systems are effectively carried out in the computer, it will yield fruitful results.

1.3           AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

This project will have the following aims and objectives:

  1. To shed light on the issue of computer-based loan scheme management system.
  2. To create awareness of such management to other banks who may be interested.

To suggest the ways in which a computer-based loan scheme management can be enhanced.

1.4           SCOPE OF STUDY

This research work will access the design and implementation of computer-based loan scheme management system in Harvard Trust Bank Enugu.  It will look into the operations of this bank in the aspect of loan management system.  The interest charged on loans as well as the updating of information as soon as they are received.

1.5           CONSTRAINTS

This project will be limited to the data available at hand, data outside the researcher will not be made use of.

The limitations militating against this research are financial constraints, time factor and other circumstances.

1.6           ASSUMPTIONS

Accuracy, efficiency and reliability is associated with computer-based loan scheme management system.

For the purpose of this research, my assumptions can be stated as follows:

  1. The application of computer in loan scheme management system has led most banks in business expansion and development projects.
  2. A computer-based loan scheme management system leads to fast, accurate and concise deals.

INDUSTRIAL RELATION AS A VERITABLE INSTRUMENT FOR THE SETTLEMENT OF INDUSTRIAL DISPUTE IN AN ORGANISATION (A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIA BEWERIES PLC, ENUGU)

ABSTRACT

This research work tied to find out if industrial relation is vital in the settlement of disputes in an organization.  This research work consists of fire chapters.

Chapter one contains a general discussion of industrial relation as seen by different people.  It went further to state the problems to be studies and why this study was carried out, the scope and limitation of the study and finally the research question and references.

Chapter two contains a number of past related literature, examined by other studies as it relates to how industrial relation is vital in the settlement of dispute in an organization.

Chapter three deals with the design of the study, the methods used in collecting relevant data.  It is also deals with ways limit the study of this work.  The data got from the research survey were analyzed and interpreter in chapter four and also hypothesis were tested.

Finally, the summary of findings, conclusion on the research and

recommendation made by the researcher are highlighted in chapter five.

If the organization would put the recommendations made in this study to work, they will not only achieve efficient and effective management but also achieve their goal that is profit maximization.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1    BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY.

The industrial relation is a discipline that deals with the relationship between employers and employers as they interact with each other.

Looking backward historically, one can say that the coming of the whitemen to the third world countries like Nigeria ushered in so many changes in the way of life of our people including the replacement if our communal world relations by paid employment system.  The able bodied men and woman in the society were employed.

For construction of rail way line, motor highways, se5rvants to the white masters are over laboured and as well needed for other jobs that needs strength these men were then remunerated in money but the introduction of ax, made almost compulsory for the adult, makes engage themselves in one form of paid employment or the other.

With the growth of paid employment, there come the need for some kind of job regulation between employers on the other hand acting as a group or unions.

In industrial relations, the government or its agent takes the position of an empires or moderators during the employers and employees controversial negotiations.

Hence it is usually said that industrial relations involves three parties such as the employers, employees and the government or its agency as the empire.  This is called tripartite negotiations or dialogue, all these are geared towards maintaining good industrial harmony between the workers and the management or employers.

At first, the workers union often resorts to strike action of making their feelings known to the management to obtain their demand to substitute the collective bargaining for the feeble effort or complete surrender of individual works dealing with employers to compli8cate what has been considered as a matter of “free” individual relations between employers and employees.  It is in this regard that the term industrial relations evolved as a study of an economic class conflict between the haves or the bourgeoisies and the have not or the proletarians vice versa.

Moreover, the ultimate nature of the conflict was perhaps seriously misunderstood as indicate in the fieriness with which it was and still indeed frequently waged.  This can be seen when it involve the burning of factory machines distraction of manufacturing properties, dismissed imprisonment and even shooting of workers as experienced by the coal miners in Iva valley in 1949 at Enugu which gave rise to the formation of Nigeria labour congress (NLC).

All these features in the custody of industrial used countries.  Inspite of the opportunities to have been benefited from lesion of history, this manifestation of industrial conflict have also been apparent in the developing countries especially in the third world countries like Nigeria.

However, the industrial conflict has no final victor or permanent vanquish as each of the parties are mutually supportive.  As Ivor Kenny put it, there is  fundamental conflict of power between those in authority and those over whom authority is exercised.

1.2           STATEMENT OF PROBLEM.

Through industrial in both public and private industries are believe to be inherent and normal, for the employer seeks to obtain labour at the most economic rate (as he does with all other resources) and the employer  seeks to sell his labour for the best possible return as all supplies do.

Inspite of the fact that Nigeria has been witnessing a myriad of industrial unrest, ranging from minor unrest within private industries and state government establishment and parastalals to the nation wide strikes in Nigeria

The cause of these4 strikes have been generally suspected to be as a result of poor management of these establishments, poor states of the nations economy, non-payment of workers salaries and bonuses, incessant lay-off and in some situation complete liquidation of some companies or an organization.

Moreover, in every work situation, differences of opinion will arise over working methods, conditions and rates of pay, if relationships are poor, these differences will develop into confrontation which may in turn result to open disputes involving either strike action and stoppages or the failure of workers and management to co-operate fully.

Apart from losses in output which such dispute can cause, the long term effects can be poor industrial relations is likely to face industrial disputer.

Most of these public organizations are concerned with the provision of vital goods and services, sometimes undermonpolistic conditions.

Moreover, looking critically into the associated problems of industrial relation as a discipline, it can be categories into the following:

a.       How to organize productions and shares the returns of other joint endeavors as regards to employees and employers.

b.      The employers are primarily concern on maximizing the returns from their investment while the employees are only interested on how to maximized his own returns in the form of wages and other benefits.

c.       What benefits institute by the organization and who shall partial there of.

d.      What to produce and how to produce them by the organization.

e.       Decision on how to employ and dismiss by the organization as regards to employer who shall make such decision and how such decision can be made

f.       The appropriate time available for the employment contract negotiation as regards to the employees and employers

1.3           PURPOSE OF THE STUDY.

The intention to which the researcher had in mind before carrying out the research is to examine the following:

a.       To examine the role of industrial relation in the running of business organization efficiently and effectively

b.      To examine the role of industrial relation between employers in delegation of duty

c.       To ascertain how employers and employees joint consultation and collective of organizational policies.

d.      To ascertain how industrial relation ensures harmony in an organization.

1.4           SCOPE OF THE STUDY.

The research work is being limited to the industrial dispute as applied in Nigeria Breweries 9th mile corner, with a view to improve harmony in the organization and also the organizations performance.

1.5           RESEARCH QUESTIONS

To enable the researcher solve the problem in his research work the following research questions were formulated.

  1. What role has the industrial relation played in the running of business

          organization efficiently and effectively?

  1. What role does industrial relation played between employers in

          delegation of duty?

iii.     Does employers and employees joint consultation and collective

bargaining in organization permits evaluation of organizational policies?

iv.     Does industrial relation ensure harmony in an organization?

1.0     INTRODUCTION

1.1     BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

“The traveler has to knock at every alien door to come to his own and one has to wander through all the outer world to come to the inner most at the end” (Tagore…)

Man as a wanderer, is not settled with what he sees on what surrounds him. Unless he moves round the world knowing fully well that the world is a spherical shaped object. He sis not satisfied with what he has, unless he sees other superior objects on being. Therefore, in a bid to satisfy the mind or conscience on what they desire, men tend to know more as a stronger apart from his country home. The storage after all journey or may be at a later age tries to speak either in writing or orally his adventures either to his descendants or hiss friends, relations and neighbours. New man, (year of publication) says “I may be accused of laying stress on letter things, of being based, the mark of going into impediment or ridiculous details, of sounding my own praise, if giving scandal; but this is a case above all others, in which I am bound to follow my own light and to speak out my heart”.

Also, man in a bid to create awareness of running for his dear life, paying visits to friends, engagement in business transactions leaves his geographical area, it is necessary to been a mark. Mark her does not really means facial mark rather an identity showing your name, country, every single information about you and also purpose of your visit. This therefore boils down to what we know as identity card.

The question is “What is identity card” As defined by author surname (year). It is a national document certifying nationality issued by the government of a country, to a citizen intending to travel abroad from the definition, identity card can also be called a true image of an individual, because it tells well about a person coming into a country. Citizens in a country have the right to apply for issuance of an international passport. There is a need for the maintenance and processing of students records in order to maintain current data concerning an individual in the institute of management and technology Enugu, the unit, which takes the responsibility of producing an identity card for student, has many sections.

The identity card processing unit has different sections such as:

(a)     Registration unit

(b)     Passport section

(c)      Documentation section

(d)     Printing section

REGISTRATION UNIT:      Registration is a process where by student obtain campus form to fill and sign by the head of department to enable the registrar have the information pertaining to each department of the students in Institute of management and technology Enugu.

PASSPORT SECTIONS:      This is the section that takes change of snapping and processing passport photograph of the intending students and staff.

DOCUMENTATION SECTION:  It is section where all necessary particulars about the person to be issued an I.D Card is documented department by department.
PRINTING SECTION:         This is the section that prints out the identity cards.

1.2     STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The identity card processing system is not an easy task. The reason is because it involves networking all the computers in that organization and as well as to present forgery and avoid the dangers of duplication of multiple passports for one particular person. The system in question can also depict how lose a tight the security department is change of the passports section.
Scanning through for a with definite information can be a tedious and time wasting work because of the large volumes of record to be scanned. Also, to change a particular information may be as a result of marriage, change of name and loss of passport in other words known, as update is also a tag of war for the individual in charge. It is also a big task detecting who and who were given or issued with a passport thereby creating space for duplication of passport and for a person. It results to weariness and loss of dedication to duties by the staff.
1.3     PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The primary purpose of the study is to critically analyze the activities of identify card processing, in other to produce our identity that will process one, to student of the school. Also proffering a lating solution to any problem that will rise.
1.4     SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This research is geared forwards having a comprehensive review of the manual system for the production of identity card in the institute of management and technology Enugu with a view to replacing it with a computerized system. This work apart from being of great help to academics and future researchers who may wish to go into research or know more about this subject matter will also be of immense benefits in that it will; consideration, to the following:
(i)      Deprive undesirable elements of the opportunity of obtaining I.M.T I.D. cards.
(ii)     Ensure proper accountability of the proceed from I.D. Card, and provide appropriate database about the customers.
(iii)    Ensure accurate update of the holders record.

1.5     SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This study caller the activities involved in identity card processing system and its effectiveness in inventory control and account management for profit and loss in Institute of management and technology Enugu.

1.6     IMITATION

Towards the end of this study, the researcher battled with time due to the fact that examination was in progress but among all odds, the researcher were able to produce a detailed study.

1.7     ASSUMPTION

It is assumed that, the system is fully implemented; it will prove the activity of the identity card and help in maximization of profit. It will also help the staff to be computer literate.

1.8     DEFINITION OF TERMS

          As we go into this work, some words will need precise definition to enable the readers assimilate the entire content;

COMPUTER:     An electronic machine capable of accepting data in the form of input, processes it under a set of complete condition, stores information or request and generate result in the form of output.

CITIZEN:  Under the provision of the amended constitution decree N0. 32 of 1974, Citizen is any person who becomes a citizen of any country either by birth, descrendant, registration or nationalization.

PROGRAMMING:      This is the act of designing and testing program logic.

PASSPORT PROCESSINGS:        The procedure involved in processing of passports.

RETRIEVING:   This is the act of getting back information stored in the computer system.

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMPUTERIZED INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR A HUMAN RIGHT BASED ORGANISATION

ABSTRACT

The clamout for justice and rights of man is an age long affair.  Social crusaders, philosophers, non governmental organization (NGOs) and thinkers of various persuasions, have devoted most of their effects to the promotion of monitoring and re-affirmation of faith in fundamental human right in the dignity and worth of the human person in equal right of nations large and small, and in fundamentals freedoms for all without distraction as to religious crisis, terrorisms, civil war etc.

In Nigeria today, all of use belong to one family mankind.  Everyone is born free.  Each of us is entitled to have rights, freedom and duties of different kinds, not withstanding.  Each of its has as responsibility to acknowledge, respect, promote, and protect6 those fundamental rights and freedoms for all others as justice demands infact human beings are endored wit h the faculty of convince and inner sense of right and wrong.  Thus the need for justice is man’s quest for happiness and good harmonious living.  A human who is deprived of any of these fundamental need is faced to live a sub-human existence, hence this work is a web-site designed to outline the information on human rights and people’s right as well as the abuses of there right between government and the populace in Nigeria.  A case study of National Human Right Development Commission (NHRDC).

CHAPTER ONE

1.0    INTRODUCTION

The word “right” is derived from the Latin word sector which in the noun form means that to which “person has just and valid claims, whether it be land, a thing or privilege of doing something or saving something.  We have what is called a legal right, which is either the liberty 9protected by law) of acting or abstaining from acting in a specific manner or the power (enforced by law) of compelling a specific person to do or abstain from doing a particular thing.  A legal right is thus the capacity sending in one man or a group of man or controlling with the assert and the assistance of the state the actions of others.  “Human” has been defined as pertaining to characteristics of or having the nature of mankind.

Morals and interest in any human being is simply because of his/her humanity.  The birth right of all mankind.  The expression “human right” in its wildest connotation embarrasses those civil, political, economic, social, cultural, group, solidarity and developmental right which we considered indispensable to meaningful human existence.

The Nigeria National Human Right Development Commission was created by a military decree promulgated by the Military Government of General Sani Abacha with the announcement of the latrest in a socials of programs for transaction from military to civilian rule (replacing the transition aborted by the annulment of June 12 1993 election) and was clearly designed as an attempt to head of off international critism of continued military rule in general and repressive policies of the Abacha’s government in particular.

Following the death of general Abacha in June 1998 his successor General Abdusalami Abubakar scrapped the General Abacha transition program and instituted a new one under condition of operation openness.  As a part of the program a new constitution was drafted by a panel set by General Abubakar with new limited public consultation.  Although the organisation had lobbied for its status to be entrenched in the constitution, this did not take place.  The new constitution came in existence on May 20, 1999.  following election late 1991 and early 1999,  According to the military decree, establishing the human right commission is deemed like similar decrease to be an act of the new national assembly.

1.1    STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The issues of human right in Nigeria have been a hidden matter right from the first republic.  People in the country do not know their right because these right are outlined in a very voluminous document hence, populace cannot reach them.  The task is too manual and tedious to cover.  The tedious nature and the denial of these documents call for the improvement in the system of presentation of the human right as outlined in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

1.2    PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

As far as Nigeria is concerned, her citizen find it very difficult to know their right in general due to lack of poor documentation via people’s right and problems encountered so far.  Therefore the purpose of this work is for every retrieval and viewing of well documented information on peoples right Human right especially in Nigeria to the populace at any station as far as you get in touch with the internet.

1.3    AIMS AND OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The main aim of this project work is to begin a fully computerized web-site.  For human right development of and monitory in Nigeria that will ensure

–                     The education of the populace with respect to their right

–                     The exposure of the arbitrary violation of the human right in Nigeria by individual groups or organization and the government at any level.

–                     Accessing immediate ad remote causes of nay swaying crisis with the country and making meaningful contribution that will proper solution to the problem.

1.4    SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This project work covers the development of human right in Nigeria.  The rate of degrading of the human dignity both in the military and civilian administration since the inception of the first republic was converted.

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN EXCHANGE RATE COMPUTATION SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

The indiscriminate fluctuations of the exchange rate over the years have threatened the value of naira in the international market with its adverse effect on the balance of payment position of the Nigerian economy. In view of this, the main objective of this study is to design and implement an exchange rate computation system that will help financial industries to know the value of any foreign currency in naira. The system will be developed using visual basic 6.0 and access database. The new system will guarantee effectiveness, efficiency and timely information on the rate for converting from any currency to naira. The financial industries stands to benefit a lot from the new system as it will be automated.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1                   Background of the Study

International trade involves the movement of goods and services between two countries. Payment for such goods and services are however made in an agreed upon currency between the exporter and the importer. For example when a Nigerian businessman imports goods from his American counter part, the American exporter may demand that he be paid in American dollars, thus the Nigerian importer will have to deposit the naira equivalent of the dollars with his bank, who in turn remits the funds to the exporter. Commercial banks therefore play an important role in international trade. They act as financiers and agents.

In Nigeria, problems arise in this international trade transaction because of the inefficiency in our financial system which makes way for ‘lag’ between the time the importer makes payment for the goods at his bank and the time the funds are actually remitted to the exporter. This remittance lag introduces exchange risk into the transaction. For example the rate prevailing at the time of payment by the importer may differ from the rate at which the Central Bank will use in remitting the funds. These exchange rate differential results in either exchange rate loss or gain on the part of the importer.

Commercial banks in Nigeria generally cope with this exchange rate risk by adjusting the importer’s account with the volume of the gain or loss arising from the exchange rate fluctuations. For an exchange rate loss, the bank debits the importer’s account and treat the amount (of the loss) as an overdraft and charges interest accordingly. Any exchange rate gain is however credited to the importers account. The bank merely saw their role in the transaction as that of any agent who shares in the profit but not in the risk. This approach by banks shifts the exchange rate risk entirely to the importers, funds are held by the commercial banks during the duration of this lag period. The question then is who bears the burden of the delayed or rate interest on this amount.

The commercial banks have refused to bear any part of the burden because they think the federal government is unable to settle foreign bills in time through the Central Bank and this gives rise to the interest charges.

1.1    Problem Statement

The major problem of exchange rate fluctuations in Nigeria was discovered to be shifted to Nigeria importers via the letters of credit and the issue of delayed interest because of the remittance lag that is prevalent in this method of payments.  International growth has gone hand in hand and with the development of transportation. Hence, there is need for an effective and efficient means for exchange rate computation to avoid delay in payments for a foreign transaction.

1.2    Aims / Objective of the Study

The objective of this project is to create an automated system that will help financial institutions:

  • Maintain a data base of foreign exchange rates for various currencies
  • Compute the value of any currency in naira automatically.
  • Obtain exchange rate report index

1.3    Purpose of the Study

This purpose of this study is to develop an automated exchange rate computation system for financial institutions.

1.4   Significance of the Study

The significance of this study will be of immense benefit to the following:-

(i)              Importer and Exporters who are always trading and in much need of finance can easily convert their money form one currency to the other.

(ii)           Bankers, especially commercial banks who are the operators of the central bank give guidelines on exchange rate will now find it easy to compute exchange rate.

1.5    Scope / Delimitation

The project will cover all forms of exchange rate computations irrespective of the currency.

1.6    Constraints / Limitations

During the process of this research work some drawbacks were encountered while trying to get adequate needed data and information.

They include the reluctance of the management of the firm under study to release vital information, which they feared would jeopardize the security of the organization. Secondly, time and financial constraints which had great influence to this work hindered the smooth development of this project.

1.7    Definition Of Terms

  1. International Trade:  Means trade between nations in goods and services which involve the use of difference currencies and is subject to additional regulation such as tariffs, quotas and exchange control.
  2. 2.              Exchange Rate: The rate or price at which a country’s currency is exchanged for the currency of another country. For example, you can buy one U.S. Dollar for N128.00 with Nigeria naira.
  3. 3.             Integrated Economic Units:  Is defined as a situation when different sectors of an economy, usually the agricultural and industrial sectors work together efficiently and are mutually interdependent. As part of the development process, this situation is usually coincident with the achievement of sustained growth.
  4. 4.             Consumption: This is the act of using goods and services to satisfy current wants while theoretical precise these are particle problems in meaning consumption. The main problem arises in the treatment of consumer durables.

DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION SOLVER

Abstract

A differential equation is a mathematical equation for an unknown function of one or several variables that relates the values of the function itself and its derivatives of various orders. Differential equations play a prominent role in engineering, physics, economics, and other disciplines. Hence, the research work is focusing on developing a software for computation of newton methods using visual basic 6.0

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1    Background of the Study

Differential equations arise in many areas of science and technology, specifically whenever a deterministic relation involving some continuously varying quantities (modeled by functions) and their rates of change in space and/or time (expressed as derivatives) is known or postulated. This is illustrated in classical mechanics, where the motion of a body is described by its position and velocity as the time value varies. Newton’s laws allow one (given the position, velocity, acceleration and various forces acting on the body) to express these variables dynamically as a differential equation for the unknown position of the body as a function of time. In some cases, this differential equation (called an equation of motion) may be solved explicitly.

An example of modelling a real world problem using differential equations is the determination of the velocity of a ball falling through the air, considering only gravity and air resistance. The ball’s acceleration towards the ground is the acceleration due to gravity minus the deceleration due to air resistance. Gravity is considered constant, and air resistance may be modeled as proportional to the ball’s velocity. This means that the ball’s acceleration, which is a derivative of its velocity, depends on the velocity. Finding the velocity as a function of time involves solving a differential equation.

Differential equations are mathematically studied from several different perspectives, mostly concerned with their solutions —the set of functions that satisfy the equation. Only the simplest differential equations admit solutions given by explicit formulas; however, some properties of solutions of a given differential equation may be determined without finding their exact form. If a self-contained formula for the solution is not available, the solution may be numerically approximated using computers. The theory of dynamical systems puts emphasis on qualitative analysis of systems described by differential equations, while many numerical methods have been developed to determine solutions with a given degree of accuracy.

1.2    Statement of the Problem

Solving mathematical equations are not always easy. Students are becoming too lazy over using their brain to do some mathematical calculations hence the need for an equation solver to compute mathematical equations.

1.3   Purpose of the Project

The purpose of this project is to develop automated differential equation solver using Newton’s method.

1.4    Objectives of the Project

The project will achieve the following:

1.      Create a program environment for maths computations

2.      Generate computation report.

1.5    Justification of the Project

The new system will help students to solve mathematical equations easily and learn more and faster.

1.6    Scope of the Study

The system is limited to differential equations.

1.7    Limitation of Study

During the process of this research work some drawbacks were encountered while trying to get adequate needed data and information.

And secondly, time and financial constraints which had great influence to this work.

1.8    Methodology

The methodology used in this project was basically oral interview. Oral interview was carried out with the staff of the company and some relevant information related to the topic was gathered.  Some documents was also sourced from the internet.

COMPUTERISED INVENTORY CONTROL SYSTEM OF A PHARMACEUTICAL RETAIL SHOP (a case study of NAFDAC)

ABSTRACT

The aim of this project is to computerize the inventory system taking into consideration their stock, sales and purchases in view of achieving the followings: To know when to make purchases of items, to be able to ascertain the exact number of each stock that is available. To ascertain the stock that is mostly sold. This will go a long way in eliminating mismanagement and maintaining a higher degree of accuracy and more reliability in the business transactions.  The software developed was implemented using Visual Basic 6.0.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

For years, business processes were faced with much work to be carried out. Much error is committed in manual record keeping, leading to erroneous decision making by the management.

In view of this system and the function of inventory and sales management, holding, controlling Sales and purchases of stocks have become a very vital part of the retail business survival. Invariably, how well the stock recording is, determined how efficient the inventory control and the Sales information system performance. More so, information system tends to provide all the necessary transaction processing for an organization, as well as information and processing support for management and decision functions. Organizations have always required systems for collecting, processing, storing, retrieving, and distributing information. The computer has added a new technology to information system so that computer based information system supercedes manual and Electromechanical processing systems.

In the past few decades, technological advancement in information Technology (IT) has generally changed the nature, standard of information systems, which have presented challenges to industries, organizations and firms to change toward the direction of the new trend.

The challenges posed by information system has made it impossible for organizations to grow in the face of this challenges and the new order of information system, which shows down information dissemination, Data collection and processing, as well as information retrieval.

Based on this understanding, this project work was developed in order to computerized inventory control to provide information to support the organization, management and decision making functions in an organization.

1.1     Problem Statement

The problem and inadequacies inherent in the manual inventory and sales control system in business transactions, where many items are involved, the manual recording system becomes tedious and big to handle.  Error inherent in manual calculation and balancing of stocks leads to excessive cost operation and hence may lead to wrong decision taken by the managers of a business firm.

1.2     Aims / Objectives of the Study

The main objective is to computerized the inventory control system of a pharmaceutical retail shop taking NAFDAC as a case study.

1.3     Purpose of the Study

This purpose of this study is to design a computerized inventory system for a pharmaceutical retail shop. This will help in monitoring their stock.

1.4     Significance of the Study

1.5     Scope / Delimitation

This project work is designed to cover all aspect of sales, purchases, and stock keeping a pharmaceutical retail shop.  A case study of NAFDAC

The system incorporates the items stock recording, stock taking and recording. Recording system monitors current store level and determines whether new items must be ordered. This system keeps statistics of each item usage to determine the quantity to be ordered.

1.6     Constraints / Limitations

During the process of this research work some drawbacks were encountered while trying to get adequate needed data and information.

They include the reluctance of the management of the firm under study to release vital information, which they feared would jeopardize the security of the organization. And secondly, time and financial constraints which had great influence to this work.

DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE REGISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Abstract

In the Nigeria, the driving licence is the official document which authorises its holder to operate various types of motor vehicle on highways and some other roads to which the public have access. In Nigeria, they are administered by the Road Safty. A driving licence is required in Nigeria by any person driving a vehicle on any highway or other road defined in s.192 Road Traffic Act 1988 irrespective of ownership of the land over which the road passes thus including many which allow the public to pass over private land. National driver’s license registration and management system is a research work aimed at studying the registration system in Nigeria, identifying the setbacks, and developing a system that will make use of computerization to enhance driver’s license registration and authentication.

This will in many ways facilitate proper documentation of driver’s license registration and licensing in Nigeria. It will also help Road safety commission track people who are not suppose to drive vehicles due to non issuance of driver’s license.  Hence the implementation will help to generate revenue to government and facilitate timely licensing of driver’s license. The methodology adopted will involve the use of computer for the data capture and the program will be implemented using Visual Basic 6.0.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1    Background of the Study

In Bretain, the minimum driving age for a car or van is 17 while a moped or restricted-power motorcycle can be ridden at 16. Anyone receiving Disability Living Allowance at the higher rate (mobility component) may drive a car or van from the age of 16. Until a United Kingdom driving test (which consists of three sections: theory and a hazard perception test followed by a supervised driving examination) has been passed a driver may hold only a provisional licenceand be subject to certain conditions.

The conditions attached to provisional licences of a particular category of vehicle are:

  • L-plates or (in Wales only) D plates (Welsh: Dysgwr) must be conspicuously displayed on the front and rear of the vehicle.
  • Learner drivers of a particular category and transmission type of vehicle must be accompanied by somebody aged at least 21 who has held a full driving licence for that category and transmission type for at least three years, except in the case of solo motorcycles and vehicles of certain categories designed solely for one person.
  • No trailer may be towed, except when driving a tractor or where a full licence gives provisional entitlement to drive a car with trailer, large goods vehicle with trailer or bus with trailer.
  • Motorcycle riders must not carry any pillion passenger.
  • Bus drivers must not carry any passenger except a person giving or receiving instruction.
  • Motorways must not be used by holders of car and motorcycle provisional licences, excluding B+E learner drivers.

In Northern Ireland, learner drivers are limited to a speed of 45 mph (72 km/h), and drivers who have passed their test within the previous year must display “R” plates (restricted) and are also limited to a speed of 45 mph (72 km/h) until the expiry of the restricted period. “R” plates are similar in style to “L” plates, with a thick-set dark orange R displayed on a white background.

After passing a driving test, the provisional licence may be surrendered within two years in exchange for a full UK licence for the relevant kind of vehicle. Full car licences allow use of mopeds and motorcycles provided a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) course is completed (the requirement to have a CBT in Northern Ireland was introduced on 21 Feb 2011). There are no restrictions on newly passed drivers in England, Wales or Scotland (unlike Northern Ireland), but if a newly qualified driver is given six penalty points within two years of passing, the licence is automatically cancelled and the driver must pass the full test again. The six points remains on the new licence until their designated expiry time. It is optional to display newly passed green on white ‘P’ (for Probationer) plates on the vehicle of newly passed drivers.

Motor car licences issued in the United Kingdom distinguish between automatic and manual transmission vehicles dependent upon whether or not a driving test was passed in a vehicle with manual transmission (unless a vehicle test was taken in the UK before such discrimination was made). Whilst a manual transmission vehicle licence permits the holder to drive a vehicle of either kind, an automatic transmission vehicle licence is solely for vehicles with automatic transmission. The licence also shows if a driver requires glasses or contact lenses to meet the legal driving requirements, if known.

Forklift trucks require a separate licence, issued by third-party training companies rather than the DVLA/DSA, which regulate all other vehicles.

Whilst the DVLA has included Welsh on driver licences issued in Wales for many years, requests for Scots Gaelic – also an official language in the UK – to be included on licences issued to drivers resident in Scotland have so far been rejected.

1.2    Statement of the Problem

Driver’s licensing is a job that requires accuracy of data and this exercise is required for every new registration. So a lot of people bring their vehicle to licensing office for registration and driver’s licensing, hence, resulting to the large crowd that is always witnessed in licensing office. This was when the manual system was still in use. Therefore, going by this method of issuing license to drivers, licensing officers encounter a lot of problems which includes:

1.      Multiple registration

2.      Delay in issuing driving license to vehicle owners.

4.      Irregular renewal of driver’s license

5.      Lost of revenue by government due to fake registration papers

1.3    Objectives of the Project

The objective of this study is to design a system that will assist Licensing Office to issue driver’s license to vehicle owners. So the new system will among other things:

1.      Captures and stores data for driver’s license issuance.

2.      Create database for registering new driver’s license

3.      Print drivers license to vehicle owners.

4       Detect double registration.

1.4    Significance of the Study

Driver’s license registration system has held confidentiality, integrity and availability to be the core principles of information security. In the research work carried out, the following are some of the benefits the government will derive from the new system designed.

  1. Confidentiality: The system attempts to enforce confidentiality by detecting double registration during transactions, and use it to track registration information.
  2. Integrity: In information system, integrity means that data cannot be modified undetectably. So, the system designed enables data protection from unauthorised users.
  3. Availability: For any information system to serve its purpose, the information must be available when it is needed. The registration system developed is made available for remote access. Hence it is available for use at any time and from any location.
  4. Authenticity: The data capture in the new system makes drivers license registration authentic as no two persons can share the same data. So, this will remove the issue of double registration.
